20/4/21 Rusty?

 

  
The only rust in the chassis is in the front nearside corner. 
Not sure why there in particular but it was full of gravel,
maybe from a Brands Hatch gravel trap!










This rusty mess is the bottom of the front inner wing. There should be a slope up from the end of the sill to the corner of the bulkhead, roughly in line with the rusty edge but a previous repair involved welding in that galvanised rectangular sheet which in turn was welded to the bottom of the outer front wing and is the reason I couldn’t get the wings off (below). I’ll have to cut that out because the wing should bolt on to the splash panel (example shown on the left.



A surprise under the dashboard 

 
On the left is the area under the dash below the instrument panel where the air goes from the vent in front of the windscreen on its way to the heater. That drainage tube was blocked so it filled with water and rusted away. The picture on the right is looking from the scuttle vent down into the car. There shouldn’t be any holes!
